Museum of Science Offers Glimpse of Spring

March 7th, 2008 by susan j

This week in Boston was delightfully spring-like. But this weekend, it’s back to rain, wind, and cold (welcome to New England). If you’re craving a breath of sweet, spring air, then my suggestion is to visit the Museum of Science. In addition to over 600 interactive exhibits, the Museum also offers a Butterfly Garden, which is filled with colorful butterflies and exotic plants from around the world. This warm, tropical oasis overlooks the Charles River.

It’s the perfect way to escape the cold and learn all about butterflies, including the four stages of butterfly life (egg, caterpillar, chrysalid, and adult) and butterfly activities such as feeding, courting, and basking. Kids will love seeing these beautiful butterflies up close, and nature lovers will appreciate the intricate details that differentiate each species. Reservations are recommended.

First Night photo uploaded by *BGP*

Boston recently appeared on Yahoo! Travel’s  Top 10 Destinations for New Year’s Eve. Now, we Bostonians have plenty of New Year’s parties to choose from, but Yahoo! Travel actually chose our fair city not for its bars and parties, but for a family-friendly tradition called First Night.

This annual celebration has been going strong for 30 years and attracts more than a million people every year with live music and dance, Mardi Gras-style parades, ice sculptures, fireworks displays, and more. This year’s partners include the Franklin Park Zoo, the New England Aquarium, and the Museum of Fine Arts. First Night buttons are available for a mere $15 online or at any of these retail locations. Go behind the scenes and learn more on the First Night Blog.

Boston Snowstorm 2006
Photo uploaded by Photog Diane

Boston is bracing for a pretty hefty snow storm that should leave up to 3-inches an hour until late this evening. If you’re traveling to Boston tonight, be careful on the roads and drive slowly! For those of you who will be in town for the weekend, you’ll miss the storm but they’ll still be plenty of fresh snow. While you’re out and about the city, enjoy warm attractions where you can spend a lot of time indoors like the New England Aquarium and the fabulous Museum of Fine Arts. Also, don’t forget to pack those snow boots and buy your Powder Passport, you’re going to need them!
