April marks the beginning of tourism season for Boston. Yes, April! Campus visits for incoming freshman to the many local colleges is in full swing. For many visitors, they don’t realize how much of a role academia plays in Boston. There are 122 colleges and universities in the Massachusetts, so it is nearly impossible to go anywhere that doesn’t house or cater to students. Every year U.S. News and World Report releases its list of top colleges and Boston has dominated these lists for as long as I can remember.

Here are some of the must sees when visiting these colleges:

When visiting Harvard University (yes, we call it Haavad), take a stroll around Harvard Square. Much of the history and culture of Boston can be felt through this little square. Also consider the offerings on campus. The Harvard Museum of Natural History has the most foot traffic of all the sites at the university. It houses 3 research museums and has an amazing Glass Flower exhibit.

Just a stone’s throw away is MIT. They also have their own museum focused on technology, but take a moment to check out the “What to do” section of their website for the latest events.

I just had to mention Babson (#1 in Graduate Entrepreneurship studies), located in the small, but busy suburb of Wellesley. Just minutes outside of Boston, Babson College has the small college feel, but with the amenities of a big university.

We can’t forget the Boston University Terriers. This university has not only won more Bean Pot trophies than I can count, but also has a great urban campus. It spans from Kenmore Square to Allston with something for everyone. The John Hancock Student Village is a must see for anyone, so even if you’re not visiting BU, take the time to swing by.

Surely not the last college on this list and definitely not the least is Boston College. Hockey is to BU as Football is to BC. This is the legendary stomping grounds of Doug Flutie. With the recent acquisition of the adjacent land from Archdiocese of Boston, expect many great additions to the BC campus.

At this point you are surely filled to the brim with college information, so take a moment to relax and enjoy Boston. Check out the many attractions Boston has to offer, plus the great discounts with the Go Boston Card.
