I’m sure some of you are still recovering from another wonderful St. Patrick’s Day. Can you still taste the Guinness? Do you still hear the Dropkick Murphy’s? Do you still see green?

Don’t worry! All your hard work hasn’t put much of a dent into the reputation of our town. In a recent article in Men’s Health, Boston was ranked lowest in Drunk Driving Arrests (10th lowest) and Alcohol Liver Disease (7th lowest). Even though Boston has some of the most famous brewery landmarks in the country including Sam Adams Brewery, Buckman Tavern (Lexington) and Munroe Tavern (Lexington) we still maintain some of the healthier drinking habits in the country.

These figures reinforce my belief that a more educated society is a healthier society. ABC News recently highlighted a study by David Cutler of Harvard University that a more educated society chose’s a healthier lifestyle, thus living a longer life. Since Boston is the center of some of the best learning institutions in the world, it is not surprising that we are considered rather healthy.

So if you are planning a trip to Boston, take a moment to admire not only the history and education this city has to offer but also the healthier lifestyle. My recent trip to the Berkshires has reminded me the great lifestyle Boston offers. Not only did I not see anyone walking or running, but also the two best restaurants in the area were steak houses.

I’m not a huge fan of red meat, but it would have been nice to see a little variety. I’ve been spoiled living in the city where you can get more than a dozen different types of cuisines within a stones throw. Furthermore, almost every restaurant offers a healthier alternative on their menu. In addition, you will always see Bostonians exercising outdoors, regardless of the weather….it’s a Boston thing
