January 8-13
The Wang Theatre presents RENT for one week only! This smash hit rock-opera by Jonathan Larson took Broadway by storm in 1996 won both a Tony Award and a Pulitzer Prize.

Thursday, January 10 - Saturday, January 12
Head over to the Opera House to see the Chinese New Year Spectacular. With amazing music and traditional dances, this is a wonderful way to experience Chinese culture.

Thursday, January 10 - Sunday, January 13
Warm up with Argentina’s hottest tango company, TangoFire, at Emerson’s Cutler Majestic Theatre. As The New York Times said, “Glides along as smoothly as an express train without ever derailing…excellent orchestra…daring speed…silken extensions. As the title goes, they were on fire!”

Thursday, January 10 (7 pm)
Join the Harvard Book Store in welcoming Tahmima Anam, a Harvard alum, as she reads from her first novel, A Golden Age, about her native country of Bangladesh.

Friday, January 11 (7 pm)
If you’re a wino and up for sampling 50 wines, be sure and catch the opening reception for the 2008 Boston Wine Festival. There will be a buffet by Chef Daniel Bruce at this kick-off, complete with lots of fun and people to meet. The festival continues through April, so check the events calendar for more great reasons to attend.

Friday, January 11- “Transport Tales” stories at 10:30 am
Saturday, January 12 - “Rhythm & Rhyme” stories at 10:30 am
Take the kids to Cambridge for a morning story hour at Barefoot Books. There’ll be great stories, coloring, and refreshments for all guests!

Saturday, January 12 (2 pm)
Join the MFA for a showing of the film Kings by Tom Collins, based on Jimmy Murphy’s play The Kings of Kilburn High Road. This film tells the story of six men leaving their homes in Ireland to travel to England in the 1970s and make their fortunes and then come back home.

Saturday, January 12 (3 pm)
If you’re riding the subway this Saturday, then you might see something a tad unusual: the No Pants! Subway Ride (aka No Pants 2K8) starts at 3 pm from Alewife Station. If this isn’t your kind of thing, then don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Sunday, January 13 (2-4 pm)
Head on over to the MIT Museum for “Hands on Engineering,” a special interactive exhibit targeted for middle-school age children and their families.
