Visit New England’s oldest wooden mansion built in 1668 in historic Salem Massachusetts. The House of the Seven Gables offers professionally guided tours through the Turner-Ingersoll mansion, where surprises including some of the country’s earliest Georgian interiors and a climb up the secret staircase are revealed. All visits include a tour through The Nathaniel Hawthorne House, the birthplace of the author of The House of the Seven Gables and The Scarlet Letter. Closed: First two weeks of January, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

From Boston by train (30 minutes): Newburyport/Rockport line from North Station. Exit Salem Depot and walk toward Washington Street. Turn right onto Washington Street, left onto Derby Street. The house is a 20 minute walk from the depot.
