Cape Cod Maritime Museum

Included general admission with the Go Boston Card
Cape Cod Maritime Museum, located only steps away from Main Street and the Island ferries, brings to life the unique nautical heritage of the Cape through exciting, family-friendly exhibits.
Opening in April 2008, “Transformation: From Farming to Seafaring. Cape Cod 1639 – 1739” chronicles and explores Colonial life on Cape Cod both from the European and Native People’s perspectives. The exhibit examines themes such as agricultural life on the Cape, early voyages from Europe to America, and drift and shore whaling, which enticed Cape farmers away from the land and served as a catalyst to the development of the rich maritime tradition that we revere today. The exhibit features the remains of the ship Sparrow-Hawk, which wrecked on the Outer Beach in 1626, and includes art and artifacts depicting life amongst the Colonists and indigenous Wampanoag People.
Within the Museum a specially designated children’s area features fun, hands-on activities, quizzes, arts and crafts, and the Museum Book Store offers a range of maritime books and gifts for all.
